Kayaking in the fog and rain

Paddling in the fog and rain is actually more fun than it sounds. In fact, the fog is an incredible backdrop to the scenery. Our group started out as nine but two others and I left when the swell and fog reached a point where it looked like it was going to be tricky to reach our original destination: the Spout. Six carried on to Witless Bay and the three of us crossed the bay and puttered along the south side of the bay. Some wildlife requires staying put for a bit. We spotted at one point (while bobbing around having a water break) - a nest of dovekie chicks. And while rounding a point came across a lone seal diving and surfacing, close to shore.
It is always eerie to hear the sounds of a tour boat heading towards you - well before it is visible.
As always - any day on the water is a good day.

Right on Mike. Glad to see your splinter group had a good day also.
